Sentences halved, and crime's gone up.

A few years ago, a slightly less grey Tony Blair made the bold statement "Tough on Crime, Tough on the causes of Crime".

Well, the headlines this week paint a very different picture.

Guardian: Criminals on probation murder 98 in two years

The Times: Mentally ill murder 400

The Times: 55% of ASBOs broken by offenders

Daily Mail: Life sentences for killers and rapists have halved in length since 1997

BBC: Knife amnesties 'have no effect'

I believe this could possibly be the easiest post i've ever written. On this occasion the headlines really do speak for themselves.

The government really has lost the plot when comes to dealing with crime. Sentences have been halved, violent crime is up, anti-social behaviour is up, and the fear of crime is at record levels.

Do I really need to say anymore?

This would have been so much more effective with strikethrough, but I can't get the strikethrough tags to work here!
