Bio-Cars

Not for the first time on morning TV, have I watched an interesting piece on one of the morning Breakfast programmes, about green cars.

A few things in a report this morning caught my attention, for example the cost of the car, the cost of the fuel, and the availability of the fuel. So if it's such a government priority, why is there no backing for initiatives such as this?

To be honest, I couldn't come up with an answer. The arguement seems to go around like a vicious circle, ie. the more people buy the cars the cheaper they will get, but there aren't being bought at the moment because of the price.

So if somebody did purchase one what could they expect. Well for a start the cost of fuel is only 2p cheaper than unleaded, and you would need a full tank just to get to the petrol station, as their are only ten stations in the country that supply it. Not much of an incentive to change over, especially when Gordon Brown has left us with no spare cash to spend the extra little bit to buy a green car.

The solution, (IMHO) has to be a bold one, and a joined up one. The cost of the car should be the same, or slightly cheaper, than a standard one. The government should offer either a grant or tax relief (a swear word for Gordon Brown - Ed) , and not just for the people that buy the cars, but maybe of relief payment to manufacturers, and petrol stations to supply the cars and fuel respectively. Unfortunately, I don't think that Gordon thinks that way, I mean why should he push poepl to go over to green fuels, when he makes a mint taxing us on our petrol, and on our dirty old cars that we can't afford to replace.

Wouldn't it be a better circle if cheaper green cars are bought but lots of people instead of celebrities having one to make a statement.
